Redundant Tanks Infill
In January 2026, GS Foam Concrete was appointed by Galldris to supply and install over 4,900m³ of ultra-lightweight foamed concrete at Wanlip Sewage Treatment Works as part of Kier Infrastructure’s programme of works for Severn Trent.
The project involved the complete infilling of four existing tank bases to create a stable working platform for future construction while minimising the load on the existing structures and what lay beneath. To meet the project's performance requirements, we manufactured a bespoke ultra-lightweight mix.
Completed over a 51-day programme with a critical completion deadline, our team worked tirelessly to deliver the project ahead of schedule while maintaining the consistent quality and reliability that GS Foam Concrete is synonymous with.
Why GS Foam Concrete Was Chosen
The project's demanding specification required a bespoke foamed concrete solution capable of achieving an exceptionally low density without compromising on the structural requirements for the project. Before work commenced, GS Foam Concrete carried out extensive trials of the P1224 mix at our laboratory to verify that it consistently met the client's density and strength requirements prior to the first pour. The final mix was engineered to achieve a dry density of 370kg/m³ and a minimum compressive strength of 0.5N/mm², providing an ultra-lightweight solution that reduced loading on the existing structures while delivering the required long-term performance.
The majority of the foamed concrete was pumped using our own RoLine pump, throughout the duration of the project. Over the course of the project, areas around the tanks were made inaccessible due to other works. Our highly experienced team had to adapt and utilise several pumping solutions to reach these areas and achieve the required finish.
Our ability to adapt to changing site conditions while maintaining quality and output demonstrates the value of choosing an experienced specialist contractor for complex foamed concrete applications.
