Technical Information

GS Foam Concrete delivers high-performance, lightweight, and versatile foamed concrete solutions for a wide range of civil engineering and infrastructure applications. Below is an overview of the materials, processes, and technical specifications that underpin our products and services.

Base Material

Our foamed concrete starts with a slurry-type base material consisting of cement, sand, and water. The exact proportions are tailored to achieve the required strength, consistency, and flow characteristics.
Typically, the base material is supplied via ready-mix concrete trucks. We only procure base mix material from QSRMC or BSI accredited supplies to ensure quality, consistency, and ease of integration with our on-site foaming process.

Foam Additive

GS Foam Concrete use their own synthetic admixture Foampor FC and specially adapted foam generators to produce the foaming agent on site. This foam is injected directly into the base mix within the concrete mixer truck to manufacture our foamed concrete, with the volume carefully adjusted to achieve the target wet density. Unlike competitors who rely on bulky silos and batching plants, our compact system fits in GS Foam transit vans and requires only a ready-mix truck and a concrete pump if necessary. This approach provides:
Greater flexibility on-site
Minimal setup space
Rapid deployment for time-sensitive projects

Foam Concrete Properties

Once foamed, the concrete can be placed directly from the truck or via our adapted pump system. Key benefits include:
Self-compacting and self-levelling - reduces labour and equipment requirements
High bond strength - produces a cohesive, durable material
Lightweight - imposes minimal lateral loads on surrounding structures
Insulating properties - thermal and acoustic benefits
Visual appearance - develops a volcanic rock-like texture within 24 hours
Pumpable - highly fluid material than can be pumped over long distances
Fire Resistant - does not emit toxic fumes and acts as a thermal barrier at high temperatures
Foamed concrete achieves compressive strengths ranging from 0.5 to 18 N/mm², depending on:
Wet density
Cement content
Aggregate composition
Water-to-cement ratio

Mix Designs

GS Foam Concrete offers a wide range of established mix designs, supported by years of performance data, enabling us to meet the requirements of most applications.
We can also offer bespoke and specialist mix design options which include:
Ultra-lightweight cementitious only mixes
Non-shrink grouts
Environmentally-friendly, low carbon alternatives
Sulphur resistant options

Testing

All testing is conducted by fully qualified technicians in accordance with relevant British Standards. Services include:
Cube preparation
Density monitoring
Independent assessment by UKAS-accredited laboratories
Early-age and 28-day compressive strength testing
While compressive strength is typically measured at 28 days, early-age testing at 3, 7, and 14 days is also conducted on select projects.

Supporting Documentation

To assist project teams, we provide:
Technical data sheets for foam concrete and admixture
COSSH data sheets for foam concrete and admixture
Concrete pump specification data sheet
Historical compressive strength datasheet
Guidance notes and other useful technical information
This ensures your project has all the relevant technical details, approvals, and handover documentation required for smooth project delivery.
